The Shape of Memories

The Shape of Memories travels to Sharjah: A Milestone at Xposure 2026
For the past fifteen years, my photography has been a journey of wandering. It has been driven by a necessity to observe, to get lost in the alleys of great metropolises, and to be amazed by the “other than me.”
From the electric neon hum of Tokyo to the silent, earthy patina of Hanoi, I have never sought to capture a single, frozen instant. Instead, I have tried to collect fragments, sounds, smells, vibrations, and fleeting glances, to reconstruct the memory of a place on a canvas of pixels.
Today, I am deeply honoured to announce that this journey is taking me to a new destination.
I have been invited by curator Simon Newton to be a guest artist at the 10th anniversary edition of Xposure International Photography Festival in Sharjah, UAE, in early 2026.
It’s an incredible privilege to be part of the world’s largest photography festival, alongside so many visionary and talented artists and storytellers. But what excites me most is the opportunity to bring my work to a city like Sharjah, a place deeply engaged with art and culture, yet for me, another fascinating “unknown” to explore.
“Aljada, Sharjah, United Arab Emirates – 29 January – 4 February 2026
Xposure Festival will bring together leading photographers, filmmakers, and visual
artists from around the world for a week of exhibitions, talks, education, and
industry networking. The programme showcases new work and big ideas, pairing
craft-focused learning with debates on the future of Visual Storytelling and
Education.“

The Exhibition
I will be presenting a solo exhibition featuring 35 large-format works.
Curating this selection with Simon has been an act of looking back to move forward. These prints are not just images; they are layered realities drawn from all my major fine art series.
They represent the evolution of my gaze: from the architectural vertigo of Hong Kong to the intimate, chaotic humanity of Bangkok.
Seeing them printed large is essential. It allows the viewer to step inside the layers, to navigate the spaces between the memories, just as I did when I walked those streets.

The Talk: The Shape of Memories
Beyond the exhibition, I will have the honour of sharing my philosophy on stage with a talk titled: “The Shape of Memories: A Journey Through Perception, Place, & Image.”
I will be speaking about how we perceive places not as static frames, but as living, breathing entities, and how we can translate that sensory experience into a static image. We will discuss how to build reality rather than subtract from it and how that led me to develop a method of reconstructing time.

A New Chapter
Just as I wrote about Hanoi, this experience is also about the “fascination with the other.”
Going to Sharjah means immersing myself in a new culture, a new light, a new rhythm. It is about that familiar feeling of estrangement that I cherish so much: the sensation of not being at home, and yet, feeling completely in the right place.
I look forward to meeting you there, to sharing these stories, and to celebrating the power of photography to reshape our memories.
See you in Sharjah.
